Did you know... when and why studios switched from "regular" style pressbooks to cheap stapled pressbooks (which mostly just contained ad slicks)?

I (Bruce) have a vast collection of pressbooks and I always knew that this changeover (where studios stopped running lots of news stories and profiles of actors) occurred in the early 1970s, but recently I discovered this cool letter from 20th Century Fox dated February 1972, which explains that they had recently drastically cut back on the quality of their pressbooks specifically because "we felt much of the material was going to waste and not being used", which likely was right, as more and more theaters were relying on TV advertising.
