Did you know... when and why studios switched from "regular" style pressbooks to cheap stapled pressbooks (which mostly just contained ad slicks)?
I (Bruce) have a vast collection of pressbooks and I always knew
that this changeover (where studios stopped running lots of news stories and
profiles of actors) occurred in the early 1970s, but recently I discovered
this cool letter from 20th Century Fox dated February 1972, which explains that they had recently
drastically cut back on the quality of their pressbooks specifically because "we
felt much of the material was going to waste and not being used", which likely
was right, as more and more theaters were relying on TV advertising.
