eMoviePoster.comDid you know... that in the last three weeks, we've had three 26 foot trucks come to our warehouse?Return to Did You Know Archive Added: 04/03/2017 WAY back in 2010, we had an unusual occurrence, where two consignors showed at our warehouse on the very same day, each with pickup trucks FILLED with their collections, which they were consigning to us! We thought this was unusual enough that we commissioned wonderful cartoonist Erik Andresen to create a panel about what occurred, and he used "artistic license" to create the below panel, which somewhat exaggerated what occurred! But flash forward seven years, and the "legend" has become fact! In a very recent three week period we had not one, not two, but THREE 26 foot trucks arrive at our warehouse, each from an unrelated consignor, and each packed to the brim with movie collectibles we will be auctioning! And the only reason they did not arrive on the same day (as in the cartoon) is that we staggered their arrivals, so we could manage it all! Not only that, but after all three were scheduled, we had a fourth consignor call and tell us he would be arrived with a filled pickup truck on the exact same day the second truck was arriving, and we told him that was impossible, but he needed to do it that week, so we re-scheduled him for two days after the second truck, so we had three giant 26 foot trucks AND a filled pickup arrive in the same three week period! There is no other auction house in the world that would accept this many consignments at once (totaling well over 150,000 items in all), because they do not have the manpower or the system to handle them, and I doubt there is any other auction house where the consignors would trust them with their entire collections, given the many lawsuits auction houses are regularly involved in (we have never been in any sort of lawsuit!). One might think that after receiving these massive consignments we would be saying "No new consignments" for some period of time (a month or an year or more) to give us time to process it all, and to get it to auction. But because we have 29 employees, and because we have done this so very long, 28 years, including 18 years of online auctions) we not only can easily handle all this material, but we still are actively soliciting more consignment from everyone else! Why? Because when you do 139,000 auctions every year, and auction well over 300,000 items in those auctions, four consignments totaling 150,000 items is a total of six months worth of auctions (if we solely auctioned them) but since we will include them together with our other consignments we will auction them over a two year or so period, which means they will account for around one quarter of the items we auction in that time, so we still need to get the other 450,000 or so items consigned (and because we REALLY auction our items, instead of often pretending to, and putting them back on the shelf when they fair to meet their hidden reserves) we have to really be consigned another 450,000 items during the next two years! But I have no doubt that will happen. Not only do we have 1,977 past consignors (who know how good a job we do and many deal with no one else), but every month brings lots of new consignors, people who have been thinking about doing so for quite a while, and finally decide to. It is getting where almost EVERY longtime dealer and collector has consigned to us (and needless to say, virtually everyone on the entire planet who collects movie posters has purchased from us!). The reason is simple: We do the best job, we charge the lowest commissions, and we get the highest prices overall (when you compare "like" items). And unlike EVERY other major auction, we give TRUE customer service, before, during, and after every transaction with both buyers and consignors. If you are someone with a large collection, and have been considering letting it all go, then know that right now you have a chance to give it to us, and we can get it all auctioned in between a few months and a couple of years (depending on whether you have thousands of items or tens of thousands). If you wait a couple of years, and if after that time we decide to not do nearly as many auctions, then there would be no other way that you could get your collection auctioned anywhere near as efficiently as we can do right now (and getting the maximum price, while doing no work at all, other than getting the items to us). And there won't be any other place where you can have 100% confidence that the auction house will treat you 100% honestly in every respect. So this may be "food for thought" for some of you long time collectors!
