Greed is Good, at least for SOME auctioneers! Recently there has been much discussion going on among online movie poster collectors in forums about another movie poster auction site that recently raised their minimum "buyers premium" from an already huge $14 to a stratospheric NINETEEN dollars per item. Some argue that this change means very little, except that this auction wants to only sell items that are over $20. But that overlooks the most important aspect of this, which is that when an item sells for $20 (the lowest it can sell for), then the auction received $19.25 of that sale, and the consignor gets only 75 CENTS out of that $20 sale, for a commission rate of over 96%. Obviously only the most naive consignors would EVER consent to this complete "giveaway" of their items if they knew what they were agreeing to, but the auction hides this sad reality in their "fine print". This is very different from what we at eMoviePoster.com do, in two ways. First, all of our items TRULY start at just $1, and thousands of our auctions each year DO end at that $1 start price (and over half of what we auction ends at just $1 to $19, something that can never happen with even ONE item at that other auction). Second, when an item auctions for $20 in one of OUR auctions, we get $10 and the consignor gets $10 (the rate goes down as the price goes up, but we charge much less that EVERY other major auction at every price level). So the choice seems pretty clear. Consign a $20 item to us, and get $10 back. Or consign it to those other auctions, and get just 75 cents back! And on the buy side, if you bid $1 in one of our auctions, and no one else bids, you get it for $1. Bid $1 in those other auctions, and if no one else bids, you get it for $20!
