eMoviePoster.comCool Item Of the Week: The Perils of Pauline pressbookReturn to Cool Item of the Week Archive Added: 09/30/2019 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! So below is the pressbook from The Perils of Pauline, the 1947 George Marshall biographical movie actress comedy ("The LIFE, LOVES and THRILLS of Pearl White, the great serial queen...who dared a thousand dangers to make the movies famous!"; "The wonder show of today about the first wonder-star of the screen!"; "The Whole Spectacular Inside Story of Hollywood's First Queen of the Screen!"; "Her Beauty... Her Love... Her Daring... Brought the Screen Its Greatest Thrills!"; about actress Pearl White, famous star of the most memorable silent serial, "The Perils of Pauline") starring Betty Hutton (as Pearl White), John Lund, Billy De Wolfe, William Demarest, Constance Collier, Frank Faylen, and William Farnum. Note that Pearl White is of course the most famous female silent serial star, but after many injuries from her roles, she decided that she wanted to quit serials, and she turned to "serious acting", but she became addicted to painkillers, and she retired in 1924 and passed away in 1938, when she was just 49. Here is an image of the pressbook's covers and an interior two-page spread: Each week I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 20,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!). And remember to check out our previous Cool Items of the Week in our Cool Item of the Week archive (which is fully searchable!).
