Date Sold 11/17/2019 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 5 Players Directory softcover books from 1941. The Academy Players Directory was a softcover book published by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. We did not picture any of the interior pages, but each volume has hundreds of images of then current actors, along with their phone number, studio, and agency name. We would assume that each person shown in this book had to pay to be included! Note that these books were published every four months, and it started publication in 1930. Note that in the past, we have auctioned just three of these volumes, from 1944, 1948, and 1952. But now we were consigned a great collection of very early ones from the 1930s and 1940s, which come from the collection of Ken Jones, who was an author of books about movies (including books about character actors and western stars). We don't know how and when he acquired them, but it was surely many decades ago, because they are incredibly rare! We have five lots of these in this set of bulk lot auctions, as five separate auctions, and this is one of the five. Mr. Jones had one each of these books, and after this auction is over, it might be many years before even ONE of these exact volumes comes to auction again. Measurements: 9" x 12"Condition: good to very good. All of these have defects to the covers, but the insides are generally in pretty good condition, and of course, that is what people want these rare books for!
