Date Sold 12/3/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Eagle and the Hawk, the 1933 Stuart Walker World War I (WWI) military romantic love triangle Royal Air Force Squadron airplane aviation fighter pilot thriller ("They dedicated their lives... to Death!"; "Live with Men who don't live long!"; "By the author or 'Wings'"; a wild story of American pilots in the RAF in World War I; an ace pilot has great animosity for an "observer", the person who flies with the pilot and helps spot the enemy, but they must fly missions together; the pilot finally succumbs to the endless stress and commits suicide, and the observer wants him to remain a hero, so he takes his body up in a plane and makes it look like he was killed in action) starring Fredric March, Cary Grant, Carole Lombard (third billed in this war movie, in a small role, playing "The Beautiful Lady"!), Jack Oakie, and Guy Standing. Note that this was still early enough in Cary Grant's career that he had the unsympathetic role of the observer, while Fredric March had the glamorous role of the ace war pilot! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning (and not only that, the only other posters we have auctioned were a single window card and a single half-sheet! Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair to good. The poster has smudges and water stains scattered around the edges, more so down the left side. There are two outlines of tape stains in the lower right, with one extending into Grant's cheek (this would have occurred when this poster came into contact with a poster on top of it that had tape in those areas.) Someone put two pieces of conservation tape on the back of two parts of the borders but otherwise did nothing in the way of restoration . Obviously this extremely rare poster can be restored, but bear in mind its defets and its cost of restoration before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
