Date Sold 2/20/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Camera Original Vintage Photographic Negative (measures 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Bette Davis was a legendary actress from the 1930s to the 1980s. She was Warner Bros. leading female star throughout the late 1930s, and she continued as a major star throughout the 1940s, and she had one of her greatest triumphs, All About Eve (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), in 1950. She refused to retire, and took out a famous ad in Variety seeking work (citing her two Oscars!), and she starred in What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film) and Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte in the 1960s. Some of her other movies include: Dangerous (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Jezebel (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Now, Voyager (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Of Human Bondage, Star (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mr. Skeffington (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Little Foxes (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Letter (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Dark Victory (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film) and too many others to list! She passed away in 1989 at the age of 81. Important Added Info: Curiously fascinating photographic study of Bette Davis in 1932. When one studies the image more carefully notice how this portrait unintentionally reveals how Davis will age in the future within the reflection. When zoomed in one can see a profile more similar to ALL ABOUT EVE than SPECIAL AGENT! An extremely desirable piece on this legendary movie star! Superb clarity and detail with India ink numbering on front and studio retouching on the emulsion side. This was the actual negative inside the camera taken by the photographer at the time and as such is a one-of-a-kind collectible! Note that this is a negative that was in the camera when the photographer shot the photo (see below for more on this). We have put a scan of the negative that shows the "positive image" (in addition to a scan of the negative image). REMEMBER THAT WHAT YOU RECEIVE WILL BE A PHOTOGRAPHIC NEGATIVE, NOT A POSITIVE IMAGE LIKE YOU ARE SEEING. However, we will provide the winning bidder of this auction that positive image scan that is both high quality and not watermarked (on request to the winning bidder, and only the winning bidder). We scanned it, so that bidders could see just how high quality it is. What are camera original negatives? These often (but not always) have retouching on the emulsion side, and negative numbers written in India ink on the front. Depending on the studio some 8x10 negatives may be trimmed or have numbers or information embedded into the sides of the negative. Obviously, camera original negatives are far more rare (and far more desirable) than studio-issued ones, but both are very high quality. Condition: very good. This negative has an inherent line that runs down the entirety of the right side of the image - this is not damage but actually part of the image. As this was numbered and used for publicity we would assume that the studio either cropped it out when printed or left it as is since it is on the side and does not detract from Davis at all. We have provided a retouched scan so one can see what the image can look like when corrected. Like a lot of Warner Bros. negatives from the time this negative curls somewhat at sides but does not appear to be deteriorating. Would scan or print beautifully! Learn More about condition grades
