An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

The Falcon Takes Over, the 1942 Irving Reis detective mystery crime thriller ("A city paralyzed by fear.. As the star who played 'The Saint' meets more than his match in this hulking giant of a menace whose exploits may amaze the cops but will amuse you as - 'The Falcon Takes Over'"; "Newest romantic adventures with the start who played 'The Saint'"; "Half the chills and twice the laughs you'd expect... with Jimmy Gleason as harassed Inspector O'Hara and Allen Jenkins bungling again as the Falcon's stooge... and the gals - bless 'em!- getting more than their share of attention between clues"; based on Raymond Chandler's classic novel "Farewell, My Lovely" and it is the FIRST screen version of it [two more followed, which were Murder My Sweet in 1944 with Dick Powell and also Farewell, My Lovely in 1975 with Robert Mitchum]; in this movie, the lead character, detective Philip Marlow, is re-named Gay Lawrence, which was The Falcon's name in the series, and The Falcon still has Allen Jenkins as his sidekick, Goldie, but Moose Malloy is still named Moose Malloy, and he is still looking for Velma; the movie is an odd mix of both The Falcon series and classic Raymond Chandler) starring George Sanders (in the title role as The Falcon), Lynn Bari, James Gleason, Allen Jenkins, and Helen Gilbert. Note that this is one of four movies that starred George Sanders as The Falcon. After the fourth movie, the role of The Falcon was passed from George Sanders (who had previously played "The Saint" in a series of movies, and who apparently had tired of this role, and wanted to leave) to Tom Conway (they played brothers in the movie and in real life they were brothers!; in a clever move, the script for that movie, "The Falcon's Brother" had George Sanders' character killed, and his brother, played by Tom Conway, shows up and solves his murder, and becomes the "new" Falcon; and Conway went on to make a total of twelve Falcon movies).

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was backed onto a fairly stiff heavyweight paper backing, we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package rather than attempting to roll it in a tube, so bear that extra expense in mind before placing a bid on this poster.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had pinholes, creases, and tears around the edges. It had tiny paper loss in the top blank corners and in the bottom left blank corner. It had larger paper loss in the bottom right corner, entering the bottom of the RKO and the right of the small writing. It had a 7" tear in the lower left border going through Gleason's forehead and entering the edge of Sanders' forehead, and some small paper loss scattered down the left border, slightly entering the image in a few areas. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was really expertly backed, and the above defects were well restored, but you can see slight signs of the restoration the poster has had. But from any reasonable viewing distance, the poster displays great!
