An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 12 1/4" x 19 1/4" [31 x 49 cm]) (Learn More)

West Side Story, the classic 1961 Robert Wise & Jerome Robbins (winners of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) New York City romantic dance musical ("The screen achieves one of the great entertainments in the history of motion pictures"; "'Best Picture' Winner of 10 Academy Awards 1961"; "Based upon the stage play produced by Robert E. Griffith and Harold S. Prince" winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; with a sentimental script by Ernest Lehman, which borrows heavily from "Romeo & Juliet"; based on a book by Arthur Laurents) starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), and George Chakiris (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film). The wonderful music was by Leonard Bernstein and the equally wonderful lyrics were by Stephen Sondheim. Note that Natalie Wood's singing was dubbed by Marni Nixon (who had also dubbed The King and I and The Sound of Music), and Richard Beymer's singing was dubbed as well. Recordings exist of some of Natalie Wood's singing, and she absolutely would have been fine, but Hollywood demands perfection!

Important Added Info: Note that on first glance, this appears to be a "regular" pre-awards window card for this classic movie that was trimmed (and it now measures 12 1/4" x 19 1/4" [31 x 49 cm]). However, there are some real oddities to this card that differentiate it from the regular pre-awards one! The biggest difference is that it has a tagline at the top "The screen achieves one of the great entertainments in the history of motion pictures" that is not on the regular pre-awards one. Also, at the end of the small credits on the regular one is a credit for Johnny Green as conductor, and that is not on this card! Finally, there is a tiny circle in the bottom right that has "Printed in USA" within the circle, and we have never seen that on ANY window card we can recall. So what IS this window card? We really don't have a clue! We are hoping someone reading this can explain it or even make some guesses about why these differences exist. It would seem that this is surely from BEFORE the Academy Awards, because virtually every poster for this movie from after the ceremony references the awards (and rightly so). Could it be that this card was printed and then they realized they had forgotten a credit for Johnny Green, and then they printed new ones, and also added the tagline? We just don't know. Please do not bid on this unless you have read all of the above and can accept all this that is unknown about it. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded.

Condition: good. The card appears to have been trimmed on three sides, but we don't know if it originally measured 14" x 22", because we have never seen another example of this. There is also some wear around the edges and surface paper loss in the middle right, very slightly touching the fire escape.
