An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the classic 1975 Milos Forman (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) mental institution black comedy ("In this clean, orderly, disciplined world, who needs a guy like McMurphy? Everybody."; "Based on the novel by Ken Kesey"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; about a man in a mental institution and one of the only cases where a great novel was made into an equally great movie, and they changed it around, to boot!) starring Jack Nicholson (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Randall P. McMurphy), Louise Fletcher (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; as Nurse Ratched), William Redfield (as Mr. Harding), Danny De Vito (as Martini; in his fifth movie role!), Christopher Lloyd (as Taber; in his very first movie role!), Scatman Crothers (as Turkle), Will Sampson (as Chief Bromden), Brad Dourif (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Billy Bibbit), Sydney Lassick (as Charley Cheswick), Vincent Schiavelli (as Fredrickson), William Duell (as Sefelt), Josip Elic (as Bancini), Mews Small (billed as "Marya Small"; as Candy), Michael Berryman (as Ellis), Delos V. Smith Jr. (as Scanlon), and Dr. Dean R. Brooks (as Dr. John Spivey). Note that this was the first time in 42 years that one movie won the four top Academy Awards! Also note that the movie was filmed at the real Oregon State Hospital (a psychiatric facility), and that Dr. Brooks (who played Dr. Spivey) was the real head of the hospital! "Linenbacking" is a process that is used to preserve movie posters (the best restorers de-acidify the poster during the restoration process), and to make them far easier to display (it is much easier and less expensive to frame a linenbacked poster). When linenbacking is done correctly, it adds to the value of the poster, and is NOT a defect! Note that the specific poster in this auction was well linenbacked, but the restorer did not attempt to make the poster look "perfect". You may still see some slight evidence of the restoration and/or the defects when you look at the poster from inches away, and you may be able to see slight signs of restoration even from a distance. But the poster now looks quite nice, and I think most collectors would be quite happy to display this poster on their wall. In general, know that we received many of the linenbacked posters we are currently selling already linenbacked, but we have examined every poster EXTREMELY carefully, and we did our best to describe what condition the poster was in PRIOR to restoration, the defects the poster had PRIOR to restoration (in the "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" section), any unrestored defects, and, when it seemed worth noting, something about the quality of the restoration itself. Many other auction houses claim to match what we do in this area, but EVERY person who regularly buys movie posters from major auctions can tell you this is just not the case! We never intentionally overgrade a single item, we never "accidentally" miss defects, and we never enhance a single image! Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It had some faint creases and scuffs down the left and right 4" of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
