3w088 WOLF SONG pressbook 1929 Gary Cooper & Lupe Velez in a Paramount singing romance, rare!

An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 16 1/2" [28 x 42 cm]; 12 pages) (Learn More)

Wolf Song, the 1929 Victor Fleming romantic cowboy western (Cooper is a fur trapper who has great success with women, but then he falls hard for beautiful Mexican Lupe Velez, and her father disapproves, and he goes off with her, abandoning her for a while to be with his fur trapper pals, but then he returns in the nick of time to rescue her from an Indian leader!) starring Gary Cooper, Lupe Velez, Louis Wolheim, Constantine Romanoff, and Michael Vavitch. Note that Cooper was notorious for having affairs with almost all of his female co-stars in his early movies, and he had a particularly notorious affair with Velez during the making of this movie! An odd bit of trivia is that the movie contained a very brief full-frontal nude shot of Gary Cooper that was quite controversial at the time! Also note that this movie was silent, but by the time it was released, "talking" movies were all the craze, so three songs were added to the movie (two sung by Velez, and one sung by Russ Columbo), so that Paramount could advertise the movie as being "sound".

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this pressbook! Also, Paramount pressbooks at this time were printed solely on newsprint, without color covers. Because they were printed on newsprint, they mostly aged terribly, and were usually thrown out like old newspapers. The few Paramount pressbooks from this period that have survived are mostly extremely fragile, but they have great content and show many posters where not a single example are known to exist. Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: poor to fair, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. All of the pages of this pressbook are on newsprint and are incredibly fragile. Someone once put tape around the edges of some of the pages in an attempt to preserve them. It was removed from a bound volume and has tiny holes down the left side of all pages.
