9j0871 POLLY OF THE CIRCUS LC 1932 close up of worried Clark Gable grabbing Marion Davies, rare!

An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Polly of the Circus, the 1932 Alfred Santell romantic circus-girl-loves-minister melodrama (about a beautiful female circus aerialist who falls in love with a dashing minister, by chance, and they marry, but his congregation can't take having a circus girl for their minister's wife, so she leaves, but they end up happy) starring Marion Davies (in the title role as Polly), Clark Gable, C. Aubrey Smith, Raymond Hatton, David Landau, and Ray Milland (uncredited as "Church Usher"). Note that one would think that a man with the handsome features, distinctive voice, and great acting ability of Ray Milland would have been an overnight success, but he was very far from it! He started in minor mostly uncredited roles in 1928, and four years later he was still doing the same, including in this movie, as one of the church ushers! It would not be for five more years before he started getting better roles, and then he finally got "noticed" in 1939, and then, of course, he was a major star of the 1940s!

Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a one-sheet (31 years ago for $1,250), an insert (30 years ago for $825), two different scene cards (one 19 years ago), and some stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this lobby card and another one (which we are auctioning in a separate auction), and these are the last two cards we have from this title! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: fair. The entire card has darkened somewhat. It has tack holes, smudges, small stains, and some paint stains around the edges. There are stains scattered in the image and a vertical scratch mark down the left of Davies' hair, extending into her body. Please look closely at our images of the front and back of this card before bidding. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
