Important Added Info: Note that ANY first release movie paper items from this Charlie Chaplin short are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two first release window cards (9 years ago and 17 years ago) from this movie (and NO other first release movie paper) until we received this lobby card! Note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had paper loss in the top 1", including the entire top blank border and the top 1/2" of the image background. It also had a long slightly diagonal tear running from near the middle of the left border, through the big man's shirt, entering Chaplin's arm and going up to the top border. There was a tear in the top of the big man's hat and a horizontal tear starting in the middle of the top border. It also had a small tear and tiny paper loss in the upper right background area. The card's other three borders were trimmed off, slightly extending into the edges of the image on all three sides. Overall, the lobby card was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the restoration. Learn More about condition grades
