An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 15" [28 x 38 cm]; 36 pages) (Learn More)

All About Eve, the classic 1950 Joseph L. Mankiewicz (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) New York City Broadway stage acting romantic love triangle melodrama ("It's all about women... and their men!"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; about a New York stage actress who gets a protege who secretly schemes to take her place, both on stage and off; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Bette Davis (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; as Margo Channing), Anne Baxter (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Eve Harrington), George Sanders (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Addison DeWitt), Celeste Holm (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Gary Merrill, Hugh Marlowe, Thelma Ritter (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Marilyn Monroe, Gregory Ratoff, Barbara Bates, and Walter Hampton. Note that Marilyn Monroe had a small role in this movie, early in her career, but as usual, she was noticed, and she appears on several of the posters!

Important Added Info: Note that until 5 years ago, when we were first consigned a different example of this incredibly rare pressbook, we did not know that there were two different first release pressbooks for this classic movie! The other style says "Exhibitor's Manual for Advertising Publicizing Exploiting 'All About Eve'" on the cover, and that one has 20 pages, and we always thought it was the ONLY All About Eve pressbook. But, as we learned 5 years ago, when we first auctioned a different example of this pressbook, the movie first played in just a few theaters with "scheduled performances" at higher prices, and unknown to us, 20th Century-Fox also made this earlier pressbook solely for those theaters! HOWEVER, THAT EXAMPLE WE AUCTIONED 5 YEARS AGO HAD 4 PAGES MISSING, AND THIS PRESSBOOK IS COMPLETE! It has "Exhibitor's Manual for Scheduled Performances of 'All About Eve'" on the cover, and it has a different paragraph at the bottom that says "A Step by Step Description of - How to Operate - How to Publicize - How to Advertise the Unusual Departure in the Presentation of This Great Attraction". While the covers and the poster pages are very similar between the two pressbooks, almost everything else about this special pressbook is different, because all the ads and the stories talk about the scheduled performances! So while we have once before auctioned an example of this very unusual pressbook, that one had four missing pages, and this one is complete and in pretty nice condition, although the covers are separated at the spine (see our images).

Note that in December 2021, we were consigned a truly remarkable collection of pressbooks (the first 37 were auctioned in our December Major Auction, and the most expensive one sold for $17,500!). In our regular auctions since, we have auctioned hundreds more from this collection. Now we continue to auction more of these pressbooks, which is absolutely the finest collection of pressbooks we have ever been consigned. In this set of auctions, most of the ones we are auctioning are larger pressbooks, mostly 11" x 15" or larger. Some of them were folded at one time, but they were stored unfolded for many years, so we left them unfolded, and unless the new owner requests otherwise, we will send them unfolded, because re-folding them would likely lessen the condition. Many of these are ones we have either never auctioned before or only once auctioned before, sometimes many years ago. These were collected decades ago, which was the only time that many of these could be found, and after these auctions are over it may be years (or decades!) before some of these are offered again. They ARE that rare! Note that pressbooks from the 1930s are almost never found in great condition, and some of them (especially those printed during World War II, including all the MGM ones from that time) are printed on newsprint, and are hard to find in even lesser condition. We have several images from each pressbook. We have given each an overall grade, and ask that you look at our images to get a good sense of the condition of that pressbook, because, since they have many pages, it would take forever to describe their condition in detail. However, EVERY one of these pressbooks is complete and uncut!

Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. Note that we solely give an overall grade to these rare pressbooks, and tell you whether it is complete and uncut. However, you can view our multiple images of the covers and the interior pages that should give you a good sense of the pressbook's condition. The covers are separated at the spine.
