Date Sold 6/12/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Blondie on a Budget, the 1940 Frank R. Strayer romantic love triangle comedy ("Cheer up! Compared to Dagwood... you're doing wonderfully!"; "An 'oomph' gal is after him! Blondie's leaving him... for Reno! He buys champagne --and daisy drinks it!"; "An old flame singes Dagwood... While Blondie Burns!"; "Balance your fun budget!"; one of the highly successful series of "Blondie" movies; based on the classic Blondie comic strip by Chic Young) starring Penny Singleton (in the title role "as Blondie"), Arthur Lake ("as Dagwood Bumstead"), Larry Simms ("as Baby Dumpling"), Rita Hayworth ("Stunning Rita Hayworth helps make it The Best Of The 'Blondies'"; in an early role as a sexy woman who tempts Dagwood), Danny Mummert, and Daisy (the dog). Note that at this time, Columbia recognized what an asset Rita Hayworth was, and even though she was not yet a major star, they "found" parts for her in many of their movies in the late 1930s and very early 1940s (she had roles in an amazing 30 movies between 1937 and 1942!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been personally autographed (signed) by BOTH Penny Singleton (she added her character name "Blondie" and drew a picture) AND Arthur Lake (he added his character name "Dagwood" and drew a picture)! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Note that this signed lobby card (and 63 others) comes from the collection of the late Bob Colman, owner of the Hollywood Poster Exchange store in Los Angeles for decades. What made this store so wonderful for collectors was that Mr. Colman sold the legendary "Cozy Theatre" collection, which he purchased (with a partner) in 1968, and it took over 30 years for him to sell the contents of that single collection, and many of the items contained in it were stamped with "Cozy Theatre" on the back, so they are easily identifiable today. But Mr. Colman was also well known for having Hollywood celebrities shop at his store, where they would often look to purchase items from movies they had appeared in. When a celebrity would come in, Mr. Colman would locate a lobby card from his inventory and ask the celebrity to sign it. Sometimes they would personalize it to him, sometimes to his wife, Janet, and sometimes they would simply sign their name. This lobby card comes from the estate of Bob Colman and was signed by the celebrity in his presence, and personalized to Mr. Colman. We do not have a certificate of authenticity, but we are certain the autograph is genuine (and the lobby card has great provenance)! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good to very good. The card was in a bound volume and it was very neatly (and very slightly) trimmed on its top, right, and bottom borders. It was removed from the bound volume roughly and there is now a jagged edge down the left blank border, along with tiny holes from where it was bound. The card measures 10 3/4" x 13 3/4", so it was only a small amount of each blank border that was trimmed. Other than the above, the card is in pretty nice condition. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
