Date Sold 11/2/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Howard Hawks' The Thing From Another World!, the classic 1951 Christian Nyby science fiction (sci-fi) monster horror thriller ("The Thing from another world!"; "How did it get here?"; "Natural or Supernatural?"; "Howard Hawks' Astounding Movie"; "Look out... it's The Thing from another world!"; produced by Howard Hawks; based on the story by John W. Campbell, best known for being the editor of Astounding Science Fiction!) starring Kenneth Tobey, Margaret Sheridan, Robert Cornthwaite, Dewey Martin, Paul Frees, John Dierkes, Eduard Franz, James Arness (in the title role as The Thing From Another World!), William Self, and Billy Curtis (as the miniature "Thing" in the final sequence when the monster appears to shrink). Note that this movie had a very unusual poster campaign, where the letters of the title were made to look like body parts ("blood and guts"!), with wires coming off of the letters. Almost all the posters had this basic design. The pressbook calls all of them "teaser" posters and says "This display material was designed for an advance teaser campaign, as well as for general use". So obviously, they intentionally wanted to have the posters not reveal much about the movie, as a way to get people interested and get them into the theater. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very desirable poster from this classic movie, especially because many of the posters solely have the unusual title treatment, without images of the stars. This poster has a wonderful montage of images that do not appear on the other posters, except for the half-sheets. That causes the inserts and half-sheets to sell for a considerable amount of money! NOTE THAT THIS POSTER WAS NOT BACKED, BUT SOMEONE GLUED IT TO A HEAVY BOARD (no doubt to frame it). It could certainly be removed from the board by a restorer, but an alternate would be to leave it exactly as it is, as being glued to the board does not appear to have hurt it any, but that will be the decision of the new owner. Note that because this poster was glued to a heavy board, it CAN'T be sent rolled, so we will need to send it in a large flat package which measures approximately 16" x 38", so bear this shipping cost in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had many creases and tears in the top 2-3" and creases and tears around the edges of the poster (with just a few extending into the image. It had some stains in the bottom blank border, with a few in the rest of the borders. Other than the creases and tears that extended into the top of the poster, the image area is in pretty nice condition. The poster was backed onto a heavy board, and displayed that way. At some point after it was backed, it acquired a semi-circular tear near the middle of the right blank border and that area is slightly "lifting" from the backing. The poster could be displayed as it is, or certainly, it could be removed from the heavy board, and bear this in mind before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
