Date Sold 8/7/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Autographed 8" x 10" Publicity Still (Learn More) Rise Stevens was an opera singer who appeared in a few movies from the 1940s to the 1960s. Note that her name is written with an umlaut over the "e" in her first name; her father was Norwegian, and her name is properly pronounced "REE-za", but most people have long forgotten that and pronounce is as "rise" as in "sunrise"! Her best remembered movie role was in "Going My Way", where she played a former girlfriend of priest Bing Crosby, and she has a significant role, and she even sings a selection from Carmen at the Met. She was especially celebrated for her starring performances in the opera "Carmen", beginning in 1951. She performed it at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as opera houses around the world, and released a best selling record of that opera! Rise passed away in 2013 at the age of 99. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Rise Stevens! Also note that many celebrities kept multiple 8" x 10" (or smaller) copies of good publicity images of themselves to sign for fans, and also many memorabilia shops sold such copy stills themselves. While they are not original theater-used stills, they are usually excellent clear copies, with a great shot of that celebrity in their heyday, which, when signed by the celebrity, makes for a wonderful framed picture on any fan's wall! Note that this item was consigned to us by an individual who owned a company that made movies and videos with famous celebrities in the 1980s and 1990s. The owner of the company would have the celebrities sign items from their famous films, and sometimes he would find second or third celebrities to autograph an item he already had gotten signed! In addition, he would ask celebrities he came in contact with if they had signed items from other stars that they would sell to him, and he purchased a number of items that way. He also would purchase unsigned items from the famed Larry Edmunds Bookshop in Los Angeles (to have the celebrities sign), and while he was doing that he would also purchase some of their signed items. So all of these autographed items we are auctioning were either obtained in person, obtained from celebrities who obtained them in person, or obtained from the Larry Edmunds Bookshop, and we feel certain that the autograph(s) on this item is authentic! Condition: very good. There is a long slightly diagonal crease in the upper right border and someone put stickers on the back of that crease for reinforcement. Otherwise, the still is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
