An Original Vintage 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Still (Learn More)

Great Day, the 1930 Harry Beaumont & Harry A. Pollard romantic melodrama starring Joan Crawford, Johnny Mack Brown, John Miljan, Anita Page, and Marjorie Rambeau. Note that this is a fascinating "film that never was"! It was based on a Broadway musical by Vincent Youmans, which closed after 29 performances. But it had songs by Billy Rose and Edward Eliscu, which executives at MGM liked, and they bought the rights to the show. Apparently, a major portion of the movie was filmed starting in the fall of 1930, but Joan Crawford, who played a southern belle, hated her performance, apparently mostly because she didn't think she did a good southern accent. So she convinced the studio to bury the film, and the production stopped. In 1931, the studio, trying to salvage the project, started a rewrite of it, but Crawford again refused. In 1935, they tried yet again, this time with Jeanette MacDonald, but that, too, went nowhere, and it was finally completely scrapped. We have seen a single still that was created for this movie, but otherwise, we have seen no movie paper advertising, and we don't know if any other was created. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Important Added Info: Note that the still code on this still corresponds to this unfinished movie. As noted above, it is the only advertising we have seen for it, which makes sense, because the movie was never finished! Also note that this still measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm].

Condition: very good. The still was removed from an album page, and there is light glue staining on the back, but it has no effect on the front. Otherwise, it is in nice condition!
