Date Sold 2/18/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Zane Grey's Drums of the Desert, the 1927 John Waters silent Native American Indian Navajo silent cowboy western ("From the story 'Desert Bound' by Zane Grey"; about a man who is friends with Indians, and he must stop a bad man trying to steal their land to get the oil that is located there) starring Warner Baxter, Ford Sterling, Marietta Millner, Wallace MacDonald, George Irving, and Bernard Siegel (a Polish Jewish character actor, playing the Navajo chief!). Note that Warner Baxter was born in 1889, and in the early 1920s he rose to prominence in silent movies, becoming a major star of the 1920s, while he was in his 30s. He won the Oscar for Best Actor as The Cisco Kid in "In Old Arizona" in 1929, and he remained a top star throughout the 1930s. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is very old and fragile, and attempting to roll it would surely damage it. Therefore we will only send it in a very large flat package. Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this poster! Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. If it is a size that might ordinarily be rolled in a tube (like a half-sheet), the reason it is in this auction is specifically because we feel it either CAN'T be rolled or because we feel it would be a mistake to roll it, because it might well damage the item. In the case of the few items that could be rolled, we will roll the item in a tube if the new owner insists, but only if they accept that they can't return the item if it is damaged from being rolled. So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. Condition: poor to fair. The poster has many areas of paper loss around the edges, with staining scattered throughout the poster, but more so around the edges. It is extremely fragile. Since most of the areas of paper loss are not in the artwork at all, this poster certainly could be restored (and we can provide the new owner with a high quality image of a complete example of this poster), but bear this expense in mind before bidding on this poster.
