An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Dancin' Fool, the 1920 Sam Wood silent New York City romantic show business dancing comedy ("By Henry Payson Dowst"; about a young man from a small town who goes to New York City and goes to work at his uncle's factory, but he meets a beautiful dancer, and together they become stars at the city's biggest jazz club!) starring Wallace Reid, Bebe Daniels, Raymond Hatton, Willis Markes, George B. Williams, and Lillian Leighton. Note that Wallace Reid was a major star of the early 1910s, who fell in love with Dorothy Davenport, who was a young starlet. He married her, and they made many movies together in the middle 1910s, marrying in 1913. In 1917, Davenport had their son, and she made few movies after the birth of her son, but he remained a top star. In 1919, Wallace Reid was making a movie "The Valley of the Giants", and he was injured, and took morphine to enable him to finish filming. He became a major drug addict, and made 24 movies over the next 3 years, but died in 1923 at the age of 31, and it is unclear exactly how large a part drugs and alcohol played in his death, but certainly this was one of the first great Hollywood drug scandals. The following year, Davenport produced "Human Wreckage", an expose of Hollywood and drugs, billed as "Mrs. Wallace Reid", and she made a total of six movies after "Human Wreckage", always billed the same way. In 1934, she retired and she died in 1977 at the age of 82. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have only auctioned one in all our years of auctioning and that was in 2009! Note also that this half-sheet is very old, and it would not make sense to attempt to roll it, as the paper is fragile enough that rolling it might damage it. Therefore we will send it in a large flat package. Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this poster! Note that the poster is not so fragile that it is "falling to pieces"! If it is handled carefully, it can absolutely be framed and enjoyed without any worry. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has some tears of varying lengths around the edges (one is slightly large at left) and some creases and a few scuffs scattered in some areas.
