While best known for his creation of the risque comic character Torchy in 1944, after he finished serving in World War II. Torch was one of the first comic strips to feature "good girl" art, something Ward would remain associated with for the rest of his career. Ward also drew backgrounds for for Fawcett Comics, including the pulp magazine features Doc Savage and The Shadow! Starting in the mid 1950s, he did a lot of work doing "risque" cartoons for "men's" magazines, although he continued doing some comic book work as well. He passed away in 1998 at the age of 79. Note that this signed item was consigned to us from the estate of Bob DePietro, who was a very longtime collector/dealer of movie memorabilia. He also worked in the movie business, and had close contact with many celebrities, and acquired many signed items in person. He is no longer with us to tell us how this signed item was acquired, and there is no certificate of authenticity, but we feel certain it is authentic. Condition: very good.
