An Original 1962 Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 16 1/4" x 20" [41 x 51 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Sadko (released in the U.S. as "The Fabulous Sadko" and "The Magic Voyage of Sinbad"; see below), the 1953 James Landis & Aleksandr Ptushko Russian action adventure fantasy ("See these spectacular scenes from the greatest adventure story ever produced!"; "SEE the catch of the gold finned fish! SEE the chess game with the magic horse! SEE the magic sword fight with Norseman!"; "Sail with Sinbad to a thousand and one thrills and delights"; "Spectacular scenes from the greatest adventure story every produced"; the U.S. release was written by Francis Ford Coppola) starring Sergei Stolyarov (billed as "Edward Stolar"; in the title role as Sadko), Alla Larionova (billed as "Ann Larion"), Lev Fenin, Stepan Kayukov, Yuri Leonidov, and Nadir Malishevsky. Note that this movie was given a very limited subtitled release in New York in 1953 under "The Fabulous Sadko". This was followed by a scattering of shows in large metropolitan areas up until at least 1960. Then in 1962 it was given a wide-release as "The Magic Voyage of Sinbad". For this 1962 wide release (which was primarily marketed to children), the film was dubbed into English, the name of the title character was changed to Sinbad, 10 minutes of footage was removed, and fake credits were used to hide that it was a Russian film. Because of the changes and the very limited subtitled release, we do not consider the 1962 version a re-release. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jim Jonson Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. This oversized pressbook was folded down the middle. Learn More about condition grades
