An Original Vintage Newspaper Comic (measures 10" x 14 1/4" [25 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Richard F. Outcault was an American cartoonist from the 1880s to the 1920s. He created a panel comic strip in 1894, one of the very first, and that same year he created the cartoon strip The Yellow Kid and he created Buster Brown in 1902. He was sometimes referred to as the creator of the first comic strip or the first comic strip character, and while neither is correct, he is considered one of the major pioneers of the modern comic strip. He was born in 1863 and passed away in 1928, so he lived to see the beginnings of of modern comic strips, but he would surely have been astounded to learn how much influence he had on so many later cartoonists, all the way to the present day!
Artist: Richard F. Outcault
Important Added Info: Note that this is a newspaper comic page from The New York Herald, and it is blank on the reverse. A knowledgeable collector tells us that he does not believe the reverse should be blank if it actually came from a newspaper. Therefore we can't confirm that it is from a newspaper and there is a possibility that it is a reprint from a later time, so don't bid unless you can accept these uncertainties. If anyone knows more, please e-mail us and we will post it here. We are currently auctioning four of these in four separate auctions.

Condition: good to very good.
