An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

So Red The Rose, the 1935 King Vidor historical Civil War romantic melodrama ("The flower of Southern chivalry... dewed with the shining glory of a woman's tears"; "From Stark Young's novel") starring Margaret Sullavan, Walter Connolly, Randolph Scott, Elizabeth Patterson, Janet Beecher, Robert Cummings (in his first real movie after a single uncredited role two years earlier!), Dickie Moore, Clarence Muse, and Charles Starrett. Note that this film performed poorly at the box office, which perpetuated the myth that Civil War films were box office poison (a myth shattered by Gone With The Wind).
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Artist: John Floherty Jr.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this half-sheet, and that was 16 years ago! Note that this poster could conceivably be rolled in a tube, but because it is old and somewhat fragile, we intend to send it in a large flat package, and will only send it rolled if the new owner accepts responsibility if it is damaged from being rolled. Please bear this in mind before placing your bid on this rare poster.

Condition: good. The poster was never folded. It has slight discoloration at upper left and at lower center, as well as under the title. There are some tiny dot stains in Sullavan's face and hairline and there are some pinholes and small tears in portions of the central image, and several of those (and some edge defects) are repaired with tape from the back. After proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
