An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 3/4" x 13 1/4" [27 x 34 cm]) (Learn More) Navy Blues, the 1941 Lloyd Bacon Hawaii romantic military musical comedy ("Hold everything for that wonderful whirlwind of gobs, gals and glee!"; "From a story by Arthur T Horman") starring Ann Sheridan, Jack Oakie, Martha Raye, Jack Haley, Herbert Anderson, Jack Carson, Jackie Gleason (billed as "Jackie C. Gleason", in his first movie!), and "the Beautiful 'Navy Blues Sextet'" (they were the winners of a contest in which U.S. soldiers were asked to pick the six most beautiful women from a field of 150, many of whom were Warner Bros. contract actresses; the winners were Georgia Carroll, Alexis Smith, Loraine Gettman [Leslie Brooks], Kay Aldridge, Marguerite Chapman and Peggy Diggins; Smith was replaced by Claire James when she was assigned a role in Dive Bomber). Note that this was a romantic musical comedy that was filmed and set in Hawaii, about sailors betting on a Navy marksman to win a competition, but his enlistment is up before the competition, so they have to get him to re-enlist to win their bets. It was released in the middle of September of 1941, and just eleven weeks later, the Japanese would attack Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, and I wonder how that affected the audience's desire to see this movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been personally autographed (signed) by Martha Raye (she added "Bless them both")! Also note that this lobby card has been trimmed and it now measures 10 3/4" x 13 1/4" [27 x 34 cm]. Finally, note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. This autographed item was obtained from the estate of a consignor, who recently passed away. He started collecting mostly lobby cards and stills in the late 1960s, and he hit on the idea that he could get a lot of them signed, because he knew that many of the stars were still alive, but that many of them lived in the Motion Picture Home run by the Academy, and he visited there many times, becoming friendly with a number of the stars there. He also was able to meet other older stars, and acquired most of his signatures in person, although a few were acquired through the mail. He went out of his way to obtain signed items from his favorite films and stars, which included It's a Wonderful Life and Harvey (because he became friends with Jimmy Stewart). He was also friends with Moe Howard and Larry Fine, and he obtained many signatures on items from their films, which he loved, and he also was friends with Margaret Hamilton, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, and most of the Munchkins, because he especially loved The Wizard of Oz! His family does not have certificates of authenticity for any of his items, but they do have multiple pictures of him with the stars who signed for him, and we are 100% certain that the items we are auctioning from his collection were personally signed by the stars! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good to very good. Approximately 1/4" was neatly trimmed from the left, top, and bottom blank borders. There are a few tiny pinholes and faint smudges in the blank borders. There is a light tape stain on the back of the center of the right border. Learn More about condition grades
