An Original Vintage English Movie Trade Ad (measures 11 1/4" x 17 1/4" [29 x 44 cm]; 1 page) (Learn More) Brother Orchid, the 1940 Lloyd Bacon gangster-on-the-run crime screwball comedy ("We'd like youse to meet Brother Orchid"; "Based on the Collier's magazine story by Richard Connell"; about a gangster who hides out in a monastery, and pretends to join the order, with great comic results!) starring Edward G. Robinson (in the title role as Little John Sarto/Brother Orchid), Ann Sothern, Humphrey Bogart (in one of his many unsympathetic gangster roles, after making The Petrified Forest, but before Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon), Donald Crisp, Ralph Bellamy, Allen Jenkins, and Paul Guilfoyle NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a great trade ad taken out of an issue of Kinematograph Weekly English trade magazine (we have 21 of them in this set of auctions, all from Humphrey Bogart movies). Studios would run these elaborate ads in issues of this magazine, and they often had images not found on any of the regular movie posters (either English or U.S.). This trade ad was removed from an issue of this magazine (see above for the exact date), and it will look incredible displayed on the new owner's wall. The back of this trade ad has text or ads for other movies from that time, and we have not pictured the back because the primary interest to bidders is the great ad we have pictured. Condition: good to very good. The ad was removed from a magazine (see above) and it has some paper loss at left. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
