An Original Vintage Autographed Costume Drawing (measures 15" x 20" [38 x 51 cm]) (Learn More)

Kiss Me Again, the 1931 William A. Seiter romantic love triangle musical comedy (very loosely based on Victor Herbert's 1905 operetta "Mlle. Modiste"; about two French Legionnaires who are each in love with the wrong women, and portions of the movie are completely sung, as in an operetta!) starring Bernice Claire, Edward Everett Horton, Walter Pidgeon, June Collyer, and Frank McHugh. Note that Walter Pidgeon was born in 1897, and started making silent movies in the mid 1920s, but he had limited success. He had a wonderful speaking voice, but that did not lead to stardom in early sound movies. Finally, in 1937, at the age of 40, MGM put him under contract, but still limited him to supporting roles. His "big break" finally came in 1941 with "How Green Was My Valley", and he became one of MGM's top stars of the early 1940s (no doubt helped by so many other male stars being away at war). He stayed with MGM for the remainder of his career.

Artist: Edward Stevenson
Important Added Info: Note that this costume drawing has been personally autographed (signed) on by artist/designer Edward Stevenson! There are additional drawings on the back that are also of Bernice Claire, and they are almost surely by the same artist, but they are not signed. We have provided an image of each side, and please realize that the winner of this auction will receive ONE item, with a great costume drawing on each side! This is one of four costume drawings we are currently auctioning, in four separate auctions. Finally, note that in our 2022 December Major Auction, we auctioned a similar costume drawing of Ingrid Bergman from Saratoga Trunk, and that sold for $590!

Condition: good to very good.
