An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 3/4" x 41" [70 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Planter, the 1917 Thomas N. Heffron & John Ince silent romantic love triangle jungle adventure ("In seven parts"; "From the novel by Herman Whitaker"; a very complicated story about the son of a rich Maine woman who goes to Mexico after his mother invests in a rubber plantation there, and he discovers they treat the native Mexicans like slaves, and he works hard to reform the area, and has several romantic adventures as well; parts of the film were filmed in Guatemala, which substituted for Mexico) starring Tyrone Power Sr., Lamar Johnstone, Helen Bateman (billed as "Mrs. Tyrone Power"), Lucille King, and Mabel Wiles. Note that there is little information about this movie we could find other than the stars and the plot summary. The only poster we have ever auctioned for it says "in seven parts", but we think this just refers to it being seven reels long, which was a real selling point back in the 1910s, because so many movies were only one and two reel. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that first release 1917 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single poster or lobby card from this movie until we received this poster!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some tiny bits of paper loss in the left half of the top horizontal fold, and pretty minor wear on the other folds. It had tiny paper loss in Power's chin and some tiny areas near the middle of his shirt. It had small paper loss in the bottom left corner of the image, with a tear below it running down into the "T" of "Tyrone". The poster had some areas of paper loss in the left and right borders, slightly entering the background in the right side of the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really nicely backed, and will display well on the new owner's wall!
