Date Sold 1/10/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Chapter #1 (The Detective's Head) Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Les Vampires (released in English-speaking countries as "The Vampires: The Arch Criminals of Paris"), the 1915 Louis Feuillade French silent crime gangster serial ("First of the thrilling 'Vampire' detective mysteries'"; not the bloodsucking kind of vampires, but vampires that steal jewelry; this movie has the distinction of being one of the first gangster serials, as well as being filmed in Paris during World War I when the streets were empty) starring Musidora, Edouard Mathe, Marcel Levesque, Jean Ayme, Fernand Herrmann, and Stacia Napierkowska. Note that Louis Feuillade was one of the most important early French directors! He directed Fantomas in 1913 and this movie in 1915, and it is estimated that he directed over 800 movies! More important, he is credited with being the first to direct "thrillers", and it is clear that Alfred Hitchcock, Fritz Lang, and many other directors were students of Feuillade. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1915 movie posters from this historic early French gangster serial are incredibly rare. We have never auctioned anything other than this very same glass slide (which we auctioned in 2002, and the buyer from that auction has re-consigned it 13 years later)! Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see! Condition: very good to fine. The slide is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
