A 1947 Re-Release Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1947 re-release insert! Over the years, we have auctioned several of the one-sheets from this re-release, and some pressbooks, lobby cards, and stills, but NEVER any other posters from this re-release (NO inserts, half-sheets, or window cards). We don't know WHY those posters are SO rare from this re-release, but they definitely are, which makes offering this insert all the more special! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we know it would definitely lessen its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had creases, small tears, and tiny paper loss around the edges. It had creases, tiny tears, and tiny bits of paper loss on the folds. It had many creases in the top 2" of the image, extending into the top of the letters of the title. It had a diagonal tear starting near the middle of the left border 2 1/2" below the middle fold and running diagonally through the credits and ending at the top of the "E" of "CLARKE". Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. A talented restorer did a nice job restoring the poster. They did not "over-restore", so you can see signs of the restoration when you look at the poster close up, but it displays well from a normal viewing distance, and this incredibly rare poster will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall. Finally, note that the restorer put new blank white paper over most of the original thin white borders, to "even them out", but they did not cover over the tiny text in the right of the bottom border. Please look closely at our super-sized image and read the above carefully before bidding on this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
