The Three Musketeers, the 1933 Colbert Clark & Armand Schaefer Foreign Legion military action adventure serial ("A Modern Version"; "A Smashing Serial In 12 Thrilling Chapters"; loosely based on the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas) starring John Wayne, Ruth Hall, Jack Mulhall, Raymond Hatton, Ralph Bushman (billed as "Francis X. Bushman Jr."), Noah Beery Jr., Lon Chaney Jr. (billed under his given name of "Creighton Chaney"), and Robert Warwick. Note that this is a then-modern day version of the Dumas classic, with Mulhall, Hatton, and Bushman as the modern day Three Musketeers and John Wayne as the modern day D'Artagnan.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was unusually folded in that it had two evenly spaced vertical foldlines instead of one. Tears and areas of paper loss scattered on all the foldlines. The poster was separated into two pieces by a tear that started 2" above the middle left of the poster and went at a slight diagonal through the horse and ending 6" above the middle right of the poster. There were many smudges and scuffs scattered through the poster and pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed with no excess linen, and only slight attempts at restoration were made. But in spite of its many defects, it certainly still can be displayed as is, or a restorer could perform additional restoration, with or without re-backing the poster.
