An Unfolded Dutch Special Poster (measures 16 3/4" x 24" [43 x 61 cm]) (Learn More) De Brand in den Rijksdag (literally translates to "The Fire in the Reichstag"), the 1930s Dutch poster produced by the Communist Party of the Netherlands, accusing the German government of starting the Reichstag Fire so that they could persecute communists (including Ernst Thalmann), and asking people to send protest telegrams to German embassies. The Reichstag fire was an arson attack on the Reichstag building (home of the German parliament) in Berlin on February 27th, 1933, just one month after Adolf Hitler had been sworn in as Chancellor of Germany. The Nazis stated that Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch council communist, was found near the building. The fire was used as evidence by the Nazi Party that communists were plotting against the German government. The event is seen as pivotal in the establishment of Nazi Germany. The Communist Party of the Netherlands (Communistische Partij Nederland [or Communistische Partij Holland before a name change]) was a Dutch communist party founded in 1909 and dissolved in 1991.
