An Original Vintage Theatrical Kraftbacked Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28 1/4" x 41 3/4" [72 x 106 cm]) (Learn More) The Voice of Vaudeville, the 1929 musical jazz short starring The Four Musketeers of Melody, The Yaconelly Brothers, and Ray West and his Cocoanut Grove Orchestra. Note that Fowler Studios (founded by Herman Fowler) produced a series of 13 one-reel shorts from 1929 to 1930, called "Fowler Varieties" and "The Voice Of Vaudeville". Each reel featured three acts, and included such performers as Tessie Maize, Roy Fox and his Orchestra, Ray West, and others. Surprisingly for the day, some of the films are integrated with featured black African American performers accompanied by a white big band. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet measures 28 1/4" x 41 3/4" [72 x 106 cm]. Also note that this poster has been kraftbacked, which means it was backed onto a brown paper soon after it was printed (this process is called "kraft-backing", and posters with it are called "kraft-backed"). One could have it professionally removed from the kraft paper and linenbacked, and it would look great! Note also that this poster was printed by "Woolver Bros." A constant headache for theaters was being sure of having movie posters for their current releases. Often, the posters would travel with the actual film prints, and sometimes the theater before them might have forgotten to include the poster, it might have been defaced or torn, etc. If a theater didn't have posters, it was very frustrating! Several companies began in the 1930s (Leader Press, the "other company" [Associated Displays Corporation], Woolever Press, etc) that made posters of their own for new releases, and they would provide a back up for theaters in case they didn't get a studio issued poster. Often the posters from these companies (with the exception of the "other company") were silk-screen posters, but they were often quite attractive, and virtually always had a completely different design from the regular studio issued poster. It is an absolute fact that posters from these companies are far more rare than the regular studio issued posters. It is also a certainty that these posters were issued when the movies were first released. In fact, they were created PRIOR to the movie's release, so that they could serve as teaser or advance posters (theaters rarely got the studio issued posters before receiving the actual movie). We have located an extremely rare original advertisement for Leader Press posters which clearly states that they were available to theaters a full two weeks prior to each movie's release. Sometimes these alternative printing posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Condition: fair. The poster was kraftbacked (see above). There are several defects scattered along the edges and foldlines/crossfolds and there are several significant areas of foldline and/or crossfold separation. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
