An Original Vintage 7 3/4" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) The Coast of Folly, the 1925 Allan Dwan silent family relationship mother/daughter romantic love triangle inheritance melodrama ("Presented by Adolph Zukor and Jesse L. Lasky"; "From the novel by Coningsby Dawson"; a wild story of a woman who leaves her rich husband and daughter and disappears to Europe; when the husband dies 20 years later, he leaves his fortune to his now grown up daughter, but only if she stays out of a scandal like her mother, and then the daughter becomes involved in a scandal, but who should rescue her, but her long lost mother, who has become a Countess in the 20 years she was gone!) starring Gloria Swanson (in a dual role as mother and daughter), Anthony Jowitt, Alec B. Francis, Dorothy Cumming, and Jed Prouty. Note that reading the above plot summary, you think that nothing could make this movie even more preposterous than it is, but the producers managed to do that by casting Gloria Swanson as BOTH the mother AND the daughter! Sadly, this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a wonderful key book still, because it shows Gloria Swanson dressed as Mary Pickford from Pollyanna, and she is glaring at Anthony Jowitt who is dressed as Douglas Fairbanks from Robin Hood. It looks like it could be a candid, but actually is from a costume party scene in the movie. Our deepest thanks to Mike Hawks and Sam Gill for helping us to identify this still. Note that this still is a key book still, mounted to a linen backing. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic. Someone trimmed away the extra 1" from the left of the still. Condition: very good. The left 1" was neatly trimmed off (see above). Otherwise, the still is in pretty nice condition!
