An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Maniac, the 1934 Dwain Esper mad scientist horror thriller (about a down on his luck vaudevillian, who gets a job assisting a crazy scientist in reanimating corpses, and before long, he himself goes crazy) starring Bill Woods, Horace B. Carpenter, Ted Edwards, Phyllis Diller, and Thea Ramsey. Note that, in addition to several really gruesome scenes (including one where it appears a cat's eye is made to pop out of its socket), the movie also pretends to be an informative documentary about mental illness, and it describes various types, and there are five intertitles (like what was used in silent movies), which describe various mental illnesses: Dementia Praecox (Schizophrenia), Paresis, Paranoia, Manic-depressive Psychoses (Bipolar Disorder), and Manias. Note that movie paper of ANY sort from this Dwain Esper horror movie is beyond rare. It is certainly the type of movie that would have played in "roadshow" engagements in small towns and cities throughout America, possibly throughout the 1930s and 1940s, and yet, virtually no paper from ANY release has surfaced! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, movie paper from this movie is beyond rare. This is the very first item from this movie we have ever auctioned. We don't know if it is from 1934, or from the later 1930s or 1940s, but it surely is vintage, and we would be very surprised if it was from after the 1940s. We are leaving it as being from the 1934 first release, but please do not bid on it unless you can accept that it is quite possibly from a 1930s or 1940s roadshow release. Note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock.

Condition: fair to good.
