3h938 WAR OF THE WORLDS 8x10 news photo 1938 Orson Welles by CBS microphone, historic broadcast!

A 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] News Photo (Learn More)

War of the Worlds, the October 31, 1938 Orson Welles Mercury Theatre science fiction (sci-fi) horror radio melodrama (loosely based on the novel by H.G. Wells) featuring the voice of Orson Welles. Note that this Halloween broadcast became famous for allegedly causing mass panic (where people actually thought the United States was being attacked by Martians!), although the scale of the panic is disputed as the program had relatively few listeners.
Important Added Info: What a wonderful still this is. We have never auctioned any advertising related to this historic broadcast, and certainly no posters of any kind would have been made, so the only possibilities ARE stills. There is no doubt that this news photo is from right after the Broadcast occurred, because it has a "NOV 2 1938" stamp on the back. No doubt the snipe it once had related to the panic that the broadcast caused!

Condition: good to very good. There are some creases and ripples down the left of the news photo, and the snipe that was once on the back is no longer present (see our images).
