An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style B Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78 3/4" [140 x 200 cm]) (Learn More)

Fior di Male (released in English-speaking countries as "Flower of Evil"), the 1915 Camine Gallone Italian silent class differences melodrama (about a poor beautiful girl who is able to use her beauty to vastly improve her social standing, but along with her improved life comes some significant problems) starring Ruggero Barni, Lyda Borelli, Pina Menichelli, Fulvia Perini, and Augusto Poggioli. Note that star Lyda Borelli was extremely popular in Italy at this time, and young Italian women imitated her hairstyle, her manner of dressing, and even her gestures! Also note that it is extremely likely that this movie borrowed both its title and much of its content from Les Fleurs du Mal (The Flowers of Evil), the notorious 1857 volume of French poetry by Charles Baudelaire that deals with themes relating to decadence and eroticism. This book was VERY controversial, and caused both the author and publisher to be prosecuted, and the book was not again legally published until 1949. Baudelair's works dealt with themes of sex, death, prostitution, lesbianism, metamorphosis, depression, urban corruption, lost innocence and alcohol, which were very daring for their time, but of course are not not at all today, so he was a century ahead of his time! Finally, note that this movie was rediscovered in the EYE Museum's Desmet collection and is regarded as a magnificent example of the use of color in early cinema.
Artist: AT
Important Added Info: Note that movie paper of any kind from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this Italian poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie! Also note that this Italian two-panel measures 55" x 78 3/4" [140 x 200 cm]. Finally, note that this Italian two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap.

Condition: good. The poster is fragile and has separation, tears, and small paper loss on parts of several folds, with some faint stains scattered throughout. After a relatively simple linenbacking, the poster will look great!
