If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster is surely one of the most desirable 1940s U.S. movie posters there is! Not only does it have wonderful art of Tyrone Power (in and out of costume), but it also has beautiful young Linda Darnell (who had just turned 17 when the movie was released, and it also has the additional flourish added by the artist of having Power's sword piercing the "Z" of "Zorro"! In addition, the style B poster is a text-only poster, which is of course disappointing. This style A poster is very rarely offered for sale or at auction. We have only auctioned it twice before, once in 1996, and once in 2004, 12 years ago, and both of those examples were linenbacked, where this poster is not backed (the first one we have auctioned that is not backed). It may be many years before we offer it again, backed or unbacked!

Note that this one-sheet is one of the 28 folded one-sheets in this Part I of's December Major Auction that were not consigned to us by Dominique Besson. It was consigned to us by another collector, but that in no way diminishes this poster, and it fits well with the Besson collection.

What is the Dominique Besson collection? He started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since!

But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world!

Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen to do so, through our auctions!

This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones).

This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled!

Note that this one-sheet is being auctioned in the category that Dominique Besson labeled "1940s".

Condition: very good. The poster has faint creases to the left and right of the top and bottom quarters of the vertical fold, with tiny separation at the middle crossfold. It has a few tiny scuffs in the vertical fold between the top and middle crossfolds. Someone put a small piece of brown tape on the back of the top crossfold and also on the back of the left end of the top horizontal fold and the right end of the middle horizontal fold. There are faint scuffs in the bottom of the first "o" of "Zorro", and faint scuff marks going at a slight diagonal from the top of that same "o", through to the bottom of the last "o". Otherwise, the poster is in nice condition, with bright colors, and the paper has hardly aged! The poster can absolutely be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or one could choose to have the above minor defects corrected through linenbacking. Either way, the new owner will have a great poster to display on their wall!
