An Original Vintage Paperbacked French Exposition Poster (measures 31 1/4" x 42 1/2" [79 x 108 cm]) (Learn More) Houille Blanche & Tourisme, the 1925 French poster promoting a hydroelectric power and tourism exposition to be held May - October 1925 in Grenoble, France and featuring wonderful art of a river morphing into a woman and showering the city with gold coins by Andry Farcy. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Andry Farcy Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a medium-weight paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Please note that this poster can be rolled, but that it will need to be sent in an 8 inch width tube, because rolling it any tighter would potentially harm the paperbacking (in the past, someone rolled it and caused some slight creases on the back of the paperbacking, and we would not want to cause anymore). Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had very minor wear on the folds. It had some small areas of paper loss in the left and right of the top border (in the black background) and some smudges, scuffs, and dot stains scattered in the top 6" of the poster. It had a 5" vertical tear in the top center. It had a 2" tear near the center of the bottom border, with some scuffs in that area. The central image area was in pretty nice condition. It had pinholes in the corners and some minor wear around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was backed with only slight restoration to the above defects, with no excess. It was attached to a mat with thin strips of brown paper tape on the back of each border, and that tape is still present. Also, in the past, someone rolled the poster and caused some slight creases on the back of the paperbacking. But, from any reasonable viewing distance, the poster displays nicely, and even from close up, its above defects are not very distracting. Learn More about condition grades
