An Original 1928 (from the first release of this movie in Germany) Vintage Theatrical German Movie Lobby Card #6 (LC; measures 9 1/4" x 11 3/4" [23 x 30 cm]) (Learn More)

La sirene des tropiques (released in English-speaking countries as "Siren of the Tropics"), the 1927 Henri Etievant & Mario Nalpas French silent Caribbean French Antilles tropical island romantic love triangle melodrama (about a rich Frenchman who wants to marry his own goddaughter, but she is in love with a handsome young man, so the Frenchman arranges to have him sent to an island where he owns a plantation, with the promise of allowing him to marry his goddaughter if he does well there, but he arranges with the brutal foreman of the plantation to sabotage his efforts; then the young man stops the foreman from raping a local girl, played by Josephine Baker, and Baker falls in love with him, but is distressed to learn that he wants to return home and marry the other girl) starring Josephine Baker (as Papitou), Georges Melchior, Pierre Batcheff, Regina Dalthy, and Regina Thomas. Note that this was Josephine Baker's first movie, and it was clearly tailored to her, as were her later movies, Zouzou and Princesse Tam-Tam. The assistant director for this movie was none other than Luis Bunuel, who used Pierre Batcheff two years later when he made his first movie, Un Chien Andalou!
