An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 41 1/2") (Learn More) The Second First National Anniversary Week, the circa 1922 or 1923 poster designed to be displayed by theaters that showed First National movies ("This theatre plays the hits!"; "We join in the National Celebration of these famous independent screen artists' efforts for finer pictures"; "The big show week of the year.") featuring pictures of the top First National stars and directors, including Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Norma Talmadge, Constance Talmadge, Ben Turpin, Thomas H. Ince, Dorothy Phillips, Strongheart (the German Shepherd dog star), James Young, Jackie Coogan, Dorothy MacKail, Guy Bates Post, Hope Hampton, James Young, Richard Barthelmess, Maurice Tourneur, Katherine MacDonald, Marshall Neilan, Conway Tearle, Eugene O'Brien, Colleen Moore, John H. Stahl, Mabel Normand, John Bowers, Milton Sills, Douglas MacLean, Madge Bellamy, and Matt Moore! It seems likely that this might well have been the only movie poster ever to show Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton together, until decades later when they appeared together in "Limelight". Also, has there ever been more silent stars of such magnitude crammed on to a single poster! It would seem that this poster surely dates from after the release of "The Kid", which was in 1921, and it must date from before Thomas Ince's death in 1924. If anyone knows exactly when "The Second First National Anniversary Week" took place, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet measures 28 1/4" x 41 1/2". Please do not bid on this poster thinking it is 27" x 41". Condition: good. The poster had creases, tears, and tiny paper loss along the foldlines, and some scattered in the lower right of the image (amazingly, there are no tears in Chaplin's image, but there are two creases, one in his hair, and one in his eyebrow, and there is only a single tear that affects the image of Buster Keaton). There were many creases, tears, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster, with significant paper loss in the top right corner (the word "hits!" was missing, and was re-created). There were many smudges throughout the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed decades ago, and the restorer left alone many of the above defects, mostly filling in the paper loss in the borders and re-creating the word in the top right corner. If I owned this great poster, I would surely have it re-backed by a talented professional. It would require a lot of painting in the white background areas, but not a lot of restoration within the images, and the poster would look fantastic! Learn More about condition grades
