A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/2" [24 x 32 cm]; 490 pages) (Learn More) National Vaudeville Artists May 11, 1924, the 1924 hardcover book, published annually in conjunction with a gigantic benefit held each year (1924 was the eighth year this was held). This benefit was held on May 11, 1924, and it was held at four of the biggest New York theaters (B.F. Keith's N.Y. Hippodrome, Metropolitan Opera House, Manhattan Opera House, and the New Amsterdam Theatre). We don't know who received this massive hardcover book, but it was likely given in return for some minimum contribution to the benefit. The book has very little editorial content, mostly a few pages about the benefit and images of the leading figures of vaudeville at that time, including Marcus Loew, who would go on to be one of the major early leaders of MGM, thanks for his massive theater chain. There is a beautiful gold page with an image of "the late A. Paul Keith" and "the late B.F. Keith", obviously titans of early vaudeville (perhaps brothers, or father and son). The rest of the book is filled with wonderful illustrated ads taken out by top performers of the day, including many with full-page illustrations, including Adolph Zukor, Jack Benny, George Burns & Gracie Allen, William Fox, Al Jolson, Harry Langdon, Sophie Tucker, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, and many, many more! Plus, there is a great ad with a photo from the New York Baseball Club! We have never seen or heard of this book before and we would doubt that many examples exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is the first edition from 1924. We have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Note that on all hardcover books, the buyer must pay the actual cost of shipping (but if you solely buy books, or if you want the books shipped separately, they can be shipped in the U.S. only via "Media Mail", which is much less expensive than Priority Mail; unfortunately, there is no similar service outside the U.S. to Media Mail). So bear the above in mind before placing a bid on this book. Condition: very good to fine. The book is in really excellent condition! Learn More about condition grades
