An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Two-Sided German Movie Poster (measures 11 3/4" x 16 1/2" [30 x 42 cm]) (Learn More) Die Zaubergeige (literally translates to "The Magic Violin"), the 1943 Herbert Maisch German music crime thriller melodrama (about a violinist upset with the sound of his cheap violin, so before a major performance he steals a priceless Stradivarius violin from a museum and he plays it at the concert!) starring Will Quadflieg, Gisela Uhlen, Eugen Klopfer, Hans Hermann Schaufub, and Aribert Wascher. Note that the IMDB says this movie was released in 1944, but we have auctioned a poster that has a printed date from October 1943, and it also was printed on the back of a 1943 poster, so we think the IMDB is simply wrong. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that German movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned any movie paper from this movie until we were consigned this poster (which is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie!), and this IS the poster referred to in the description above. Also note that this poster is printed on the back of part of another poster. During World War II, there were massive paper shortages in Germany (even more so than many other European countries). There was such a shortage of paper that not only did they often have to print them on the back of other posters. Poster like these are INCREDIBLY rare (surely they did not print many, and surely many of them were soon recycled themselves). Note also that this is a very rare poster from Germany during World War II. There are very few German movie posters from during World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. It is likely that German posters from during the Nazi era are even more rare than those from before that era, because most of those that survived the war would have been destroyed right after the war! Also note that this poster is double-sided (there is a different image on each side of the poster). We have provided an image of each side, and please realize that the winner of this auction will receive ONE poster! Condition: good to very good. There is some bleed-through from the poster that was printed on the back of, in the light-colored areas, but this would likely be true of all examples of this poster.
