Date Sold 4/29/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" [27 x 34 cm]) (Learn More) Partners of the Night, the 1920 Paul Scardon silent romantic crime melodrama (from the story by Leroy Scott; about a woman who steals money, and a police detective takes sympathy on her and allows her to make restitution and avoid jail, but the police chief is angered by this and tries to get her to frame the commissioner, but the woman turns the tables on him) starring Pinna Nesbit (in her final movie role before retiring), William B. Davidson, William Ingersoll, Emmett Corrigan, and Mario Majeroni. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a single still from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this lobby card! Also, there is an oddity to this card. It SHOULD be printed on "thin" paper, like other Goldwyn cards of this time (see below for much more on this), but instead, it is on a HEAVIER than normal paper stock. We imagine that Goldwyn started doing this after theaters complained about the thin paper cards! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Note that cinema pioneer Samuel Goldwyn (one of the founders of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) conducted an interesting experiment with lobby cards in late 1918, 1919, and part of 1920. He had all of those lobby cards from Goldwyn movies made in a special way. The title card was like a normal title card, but all of the seven scene cards did not have the title of the movie printed anywhere on them! Obviously, theater owners hated the experiment, because it meant they could not tell which movie the scene cards were from unless they had specifically seen the movie. Similarly, lobby card collectors have the same problem, and we have sold many "unknown" Goldwyn lobby cards from 1918 to 1920 over the years! Finally, note that this lobby card has been trimmed and it now measures 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" [27 x 34 cm]. Condition: fair. Approximately 1/4" was trimmed from each blank border. The card was folded vertically to the left of center, and there are rough creases along that fold. There are pinholes, stains, smudges, and creases around the edges, with surface paper loss in the top right corner. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this card.
