Gaumont British 1935-36, the 1935 Gaumont British studio campaign book. Gaumont British was the North American distributor of movies made in England, and this was their campaign book for the English movies they were distributing in 1935 and 1936 (some of them had delayed production and were not released until 1937). Unlike most campaign books of this period, this contained individual sheets in a special cardboard mailer. Each of those sheets was on a quality paper stock, and each has an artwork image of a top Gaumont British star (including Boris Karloff, and an artwork image of Paul Robeson from King Solomon's Mines) by A. Ginsberg, with a one-color image and information about the star and their movie on the other side. The bottom of the first page tells that theater owners can purchase frames that hold these portraits for 25 cents each by writing to an address they provide. It features full-page images of stars and ads for upcoming movies, with added information about some of them at the bottom. The prints were sent to theaters in a special printed cardboard mailer. The mailer has the Gaumont British emblem with a giraffe printed on it, and there is a mailing label from Gaumont British to the theater. The prints, which are printed on heavy paper, are loose within that mailing carton. Apparently, this was successful, because Gaumont British did something very similar the following year with their 1936-37 campaign book. Note that we can't say for certain that this is complete, because it has loose pages. It would seem to be, especially because it is in the original mailing carton, but we have never seen another example of this, so we can't say for sure. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note: We have 12 images of this campaign book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 12 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 2.

Condition: very good to fine. The mailing carton has some wear but has survived pretty well. The prints are in excellent condition!
