An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 48 pages) (Learn More) Warner Bros. First National 1931 - 1932, the 1931 campaign book created by Warner Bros/First National, and featuring information about stars, and their upcoming movies, but much more focused on the stars than the movies, which is not surprising, since it was their "star power" that drove Warner Bros. rise to being a top studio starting in 1931. Some of the stars include: Kay Francis, William Powell, James Cagney, Barbara Stanwyck, Edward G. Robinson, Loretta Young, and many more (some of the stars receive 2-page spreads, and the others are given 1 page each and sometimes a smaller amount). As noted above, most of the book is devoted to their stars, but there are many great ads for films and film series, including a wonderful full page for Bosko, famous star of Looney Tunes, and much more! Note that Warner Bros, alone among major studios, seemed to not believe much in campaign books in the 1930s! After they made this one in 1931, they seemed to have abandoned making campaign books for two decades, because the next regular U.S. campaign book from Warner Bros. we have auctioned is from 1950-51. Or maybe they made them, and only ran them as ads in exhibitor magazines. Or maybe they made them and they are just unbelievably rare! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that Warner Bros. must have signed Lil Dagover to a contract immediately after this book went to press. Because they thought she would become a major star, they printed a 2-page supplement on a sheet twice the size of the campaign book, but folded over so that it fit in, and it was entirely promoting Dagover as "The Darling of the Continent". No doubt they included this supplement with every campaign book they sent out. Of course, they were wrong about Dagover and she didn't have much success! Note: We have 12 images of the campaign books in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 12 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 2. Condition: very good to fine. The book has slight wear on both edges of the spine and the cover is separating at the top 3" of the spine, but otherwise, the book is in excellent condition! Learn More about condition grades
