An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded German Movie Poster (measures 35 1/2" x 49 1/4" [90 x 125 cm]) (Learn More) Die Hochzeit von Valeni (literally translates to "The Wedding of Valeni"), the 1914 Jacob Fleck & Carl Rudolf Friese Austrian silent romantic melodrama (based on the 1889 novel by Ludwig Ganghofer) starring Carl Ludwig Friese, Polly Janisch, Herr Normann, and Max Neufeld. Vienna's press reported that, "The entire masterpiece is filled with powerful events that are born out of the wild passions of a passionate people. The strongest and most primordial instincts of humanity, love, hatred, lust for power and rebellion against hated coercion - in the form of a peasant revolt - move the characteristic figures who are the bearers of the plot. Where does cinema have a more powerful drama, where can more effective images be found than in this work? And the film adaptation is very well done. The shots of nature and the pictures of the wedding celebration are very beautiful and vivid, the wildly moving and picturesque procession of the revolting peasants forcing their way into the courtroom. These and other scenes, most of which were shot in Romania are unparalleled. All in all, this work of the young Austrian film art is a great honor. " Artist: Ludwig Hohlwein Important Added Info: Note that all posters by Hohlwein are rare and the very few movie posters he created are even more so (we have NEVER before auctioned this poster)! Ludwig Hohlwein was a German artist from the 1890s until his passing in 1949. He is one of the best known German poster artists (though his reputation suffered because of his work with the Nazis)! Initially an architect student who illustrated for newspapers, he went on to design book decorations, booklets, and advertising posters. He joined the Nazi Regime in 1933 after refusing an offer to emigrate to the United States. Poster historian Alain Weill says "Hohlwein was the most prolific and brilliant German posterist of the 20th century. Beginning with his first efforts, Hohlwein found his style with disconcerting facility. It would vary little for the next forty years. The drawing was perfect from the start, nothing seemed alien to him, and in any case, nothing posed a problem for him. His figures are full of touches of color and a play of light and shade that brings them out of their background and gives them substance". Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has some small tears and creases around the edges, with a few small tape repairs on the back. Learn More about condition grades
