A 1938 Re-Release Theatrical 8 1/4" x 10 1/4" [21 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Sheik, the classic 1921 George Melford Arabia silent romantic melodrama ("It's a Paramount Picture"; "Based on the novel by Edith M. Hull"; about an Arab sheik who meets a female British socialite, and he falls heavily for her, but she wants no part of him, so he kidnaps her and takes her to his palace in the desert; she rejects him, but after she is re-kidnapped by bandits does she start to realize that she has fallen in love with the sheik, who rescues her in the nick of time!) starring Rudolph Valentino (in the title role as Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan), Agnes Ayres, Ruth Miller, George Waggner, and Adolphe Menjou. Note that Valentino had risen to stardom in the late 1910s, but this movie made him a superstar! He would complete ten more movies over the next five years, but sadly, after making a sequel to this movie, "The Son of the Sheik", in 1926, he passed away from complications after surgery. He was just 31 years of age, and the entire world mourned his passing. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that in 1938, Rudolph Valentino's best movies were re-released to theaters, and they met with astonishing success, sometimes out-grossing brand new movies! Also note that this still, which measures 8 1/4" x 10 1/4" [21 x 26 cm], has a reversed still code number. When movies were re-released, the studios would print new stills from the original negatives, but they were often sloppy in how they were printed, and in this case, the image was accidentally reversed, resulting in a reversed still code number (see our image). Condition: good. There are pinholes in the corners. There is tiny paper loss in the top right corner. There is a 3" tear in the lower right border that was repaired with tape from the back and there is paper loss in the right blank border at the end of the tear, and the paper tape on the back covers that tear. There is also other paper tape on the back of part of the right border, where there were creases and a few tiny tears. Learn More about condition grades
