An Original Vintage 16x16 Glass Slide Display (measures 16 1/4" x 16 1/4" [41 x 41 cm]; contains 8 vintage glass slides) (Learn More)

Glass Slide Lighted Display, the circa 1990s lighted display case which could be used to show glass slides (made by an avid glass slide collector). People sometimes ask us how collectors display glass slides, and this is one of those ways! The collector who had this made created it with illumination from the back, so you can really see the images on the slides well. He had two different ones made (one that holds 8 slides and one that holds 4), and we are currently auctioning each of those in two separate auctions. This is a great opportunity for glass slide collectors to acquire a custom made frame that they can display some of their glass slides in!

Know that glass slides were made from the early 1910s through the early 1950s (there were a limited number of theaters that kept using them for many years afterwards, and we have even seen some from the 1990s!). They were shown in between movie showings, while the audience was entering the theater. They would be projected onto the screen, and they would either be an advertisement for an upcoming movie, or an ad for a local business. They are often quite scarce, especially in good condition (as they often broke; being made of actual glass, they are fragile). Sometimes they had images that also appeared on the title card or the posters, sometimes the images came from newspaper ads, and sometimes there were images that do not seem to have appeared anywhere else! There were two types of glass slides, one with a single piece of glass stapled into a cardboard holder, and the other with two pieces of glass that were held together with black tape. The two types were both made throughout the years, but the type with two pieces of glass was more common in the 1910s and 1920s, while the type with one piece of glass and the cardboard was more common in the 1930s and 1940s.
Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, this is one of two homemade display cases that allowed this collector to display eight of his glass slides. He has consigned it to us together with the eight slides, which are for Trailing the Killer, Tropic Fury, Tomboy, We're Rich Again, Too Busy To Work, Walls of Gold, A Trip to Paradise, and The Ware Case. The winner of this display receives both the display and the eight slides. They can remove any or all of the slides and replace them with ones from their own collection! Note that this display has a good light source that illuminates the slides well (see our image). The other display does not have as good of a light source (see that auction)

Condition: very good to fine. The eight slides are in nice condition, and the box itself works as intended!
