Date Sold 5/29/2016 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 353 Italian stills (ranging in size from 5 1/4" x 7" to 7" x 9 1/4") from Salambo. Our consignor purchased this amazing set of Italian stills from a man who worked on the movie, and it is extremely likely that no other similar set survives. It contains 12 5 1/4" x 7" black & white photos, 36 color photos, and 305 7" x 9 1/4" black & white photos. Almost all of the stills have a stamp on the back that reads "FOTO VASELLI ROMA" with an address and phone number. The winner of this auction receives all 353 stills! Of course, Salambo (released in the U.S. in 1962 as "The Loves of Salammbo") is the 1960 Sergio Grieco Italian/French barbarian sword & sandal war romantic melodrama ("Army against army! Empire against empire! For this woman men would commit every sin.every sacrilege!"; "The might adventure of a pagan age of pleasure and violence. two hundred years before Christ!"; "Barbarians - Lusting to conquer. fighting for the beauty called Salambo - diving temptress of Carthage!"; "By sword or sin. by pleasure or violence. The hordes who lusted to conquer the Pagan world of Carthage - through the arms of the woman who held its key!"; "From the story by Gustave Flaubert") starring Jeanne Valerie (in the title role as Salambo), Jacques Sernas, Edmund Purdom ("in the role of Narr Havas"), Riccardo Garrone, and Arnoldo Foa Measurements: from 5 1/4" x 7" to 7 9 1/4"Condition: good. All the stills are curled some around the edges. Many of the color stills, but only a small number of the black and white stills, have some water damage (slight discoloration and possible mildew).
